(Interestingly, the initials "A.W." do not appear
for the three Tuckers listed for the 124th on the CWSSS. There is a
Pvt., later Cpl., Albert A. Tucker. I've yet to check the
Adjutant-General's Reports for further information.)

Mr. Fry:

Maybe New York had a problem with middle initials... My
great-great-grandfather served in the 62nd New York, & as a clerk in the Provost-Marshall's
office. He's noted as both "Charles H. Travis" and "Charles E. Travis" on
various documents. Family records list his middle initial as "H" for "Henry" -
which is what appears on most of the Federal papers, such as pension documents,
letter from Marsena Patrick, &c. The initial "E", however, appears several
times in the New York records. (Actually, I think he's listed as both on the
CWSSS.)

So "Albert W." could easily have become "Albert A."!

Warmest regards,
Sherrie House
