GDG- Gettysburg items

I was talking to a collector friend about this sale.

My favorite was the envelope containing the two Confederate bills that were
carried by Lee at Appomattox, verified by a note from Fitz Lee.

Estimated price: $5-8,000.

My friend pointed out that the two bills are worth maybe $100. What is the
provenance -- has a hand-writing expert looked at the writing: is it Fitz
Lee's (note: I did recheck to make certain it was Fitz -- it was one of the
numerous Civil War era Lees.)

I still like the idea of that envelope and bills on my wall.

Take care,

Bob

Esteemed GDG Member Contributes:

The Heritage Civil War auction ends today, and includes such things as
Sickles' campaign chest, Lee's "True Copies" of the articles of surrender
letters exchanged with Grant, the "sharpshooter" picture, and a lot of other
pieces of history. Since my budget is in the "imagination only" category, I
wondered what one Gettysburg related item (currently known to exist or not)
I would most like to have displayed on my CW bookcase. I think it might
start a few conversations to have Armistead's sword with his hat still on
it. Warren's binoculars? Council of War table?

I wonder what others in the group would like to find in their great aunt's
attic, or just under the tree in a few months?

If you expand the exercise to the entire conflict, it can be imagination
overload... but still sorta fun!
