The double-line controversy of Pettigrew's division doesn't interest me
as much as some other parts of the PPT Assault, but I tend to think
Stewart's book on the Charge is still without rival as the best on the
action.
I find it amazing that such a highly visible part (three lines of battle
versus two) of such a famous action during the most famous battle ever fought on
American soil should remain a mystery after all these years. I suppose it
points out how very little we may really know about other aspects of
Gettysburg (and other Civil War events).
And I share your admiration of Stewart's book.
