Hi Tom! I can't tell you how or who named the organization. But I just checked the website, http://www.amartcivilwar.org/ and notice that there are many more CWRTs than the originals and they are in NJ etc. So it looks like perhaps when originally named, the namers thought it would be bigger some day and it appears that has happened. Perhaps your CWRT would want to contact the organization?
I belong to the Delaware Valley CWRT, Montgomery County CWRT and Bucks County CWRT ( In addition to a variety of other historical organizations!)
