   Thanks, Jack.  That seems to sum it up pretty well.  I thought 
itinteresting that he spent his career before and after the Civil War as a 
mathematics instructor at the Naval Academy, and supposedly is the only army 
general buried at Annapolis.

  And Lockwood is probably the only infantry general in all history ever to 
author a textbook on naval gunnery.
