Jim,

Thanks for the post on this subject.  The last sentence especially does not
bode well for Butterfield's reputation.  We do have to take into
consideration, however, whether Wainwright was a perceptive and honest
evaluator of his fellow officers in the AoP.  I do not know enough about
Wainwright to be able to make that judgment.

Whatever the accuracy of Wainwright's comments, I think we still need to
have a more in depth understanding of what motivated Butterfield, and what
his impact was on the units in which he served.
