In addition to being a student of the Gettysburg
Campaign, I am also a student and collector of US
Army attire (1775-Present).
I for one will not miss the post World War II
uniform combinations. A real low point in the
history of US Army attire (with the exception of
the short life of the Ike jacket).
Now we just need to get rid of the berets for all
except SPECIAL FORCES (and OPS) and the new
pajama-like fatigues/battle dress which seem to
be worn for just about every occasion. As a
general officer said to me - "George C. Marshall
went all through World War II wearing a tie".
And while we are at it we could have the Enlisted
Men to start wearing navy frock coats with piping
and shoulder scales, sky blue (or navy for early
war purists) kersey trousers and Jeff Davis hats
with brass adornments, tassels and plume. Now
there's a uniform!
It will be interesting to see the new uniform(s)
phased in. No wonder the US Army changed the
catch phrase for AN ARMY OF ONE to ARMY STRONG!
Cheers!
