Hello, all.......

I just returned from a pleasant weekend in Gettysburg. The weather was beautiful and the tourists were out in full force.

The tree cuts on Culp's Hill are just amazing and the progress on the new Visitors' Center is coming along nicely. The Round Barn which will house the Cylcorama painting is already constructed.

At the Gettysburg Foundation Spring Muster, I enjoyed a nice lecture/slide presentation by Greg Coco on civil war medicine and hospitals in and around the Gettysburg area after the battle. It was a great insight to what life was like in Gettysburg during the aftermath.

I also listened to Sue Boardman give an exciting update on the restoration of the cyclorama painting itself. She had plenty of cyclorama memorabilia to share with us including some of the old strips used as backing for the painting before the current restoration began. Sue also showed us an annual pass used by a member of the 24th Virginia who visited the painting in its early days. I can't wait to see the painting it when the restoration is fully completed.

By the way, for those of you who have an interest in the Western Theater, I highly recommend the following discussion group on the battle at Shiloh http://www.Shiloh-online.net. I've seen a few GDGers over there, already!
