GDG- Need OR on CD

The very term "War Between the States" is an anachronism from the post-war whites-only reconciliation period and is actually contrary to the stated positions of the parties. On the Union side, it was the Government of the United States seeking to end a rebellion or civil war caused by the insurrection of several states and, on the Confederate side, the position was that a new nation, the Confederate States of America, had been formed and was fighting to establish and defend its independence.
