Meade's letters are a treasure, revealing a complex and fascinating man.
Like McClellan, his "pillow talk" stuff to his wife tell us a lot about him.
IIRC, the source for the comment that the men called Meade "a goggle-eyed
snapping turtle" is from one of his letters -- which tells us a lot about
him: a man who did not take himself seriously as well as one who, like all
successful leaders, had his sources in the ranks!

Take care,

Bob

John knows about my decision and is currently working to place the book
onto a CD. I regret that I had to make this decision-- John's book is a
treasure!
It is indeed; I am glad that I was able to obtain a copy from a used book
service, although I am sure the CD edition will be a valuable resource.

In order to avoid similar crises in the future, I should let you know that
Woody Christ's Bliss Farm book (second edition), The Life and Letters of
George Gordon Meade, and Gary Lash's Gibraltar Brigade are also in very low
quantities and will likely not be reprinted.

The Bliss Farm book at least I can heartily recommend (the Meade and
Gibraltar Brigade books I have not read, but I may have to give that some
thought ...).
