Alan, Tom, Jim and the gang:

Thanks for all your inputs.

I've read part of Martin's book and it certainly is comprehensive.  I
haven't read Pfanz. I was going to make the point Jim did - if you buy
Martin used on-line, avoid the very first edition (there's a reason it
has two copyright dates) as that was marred with typos and I think some
errors of fact. Martin's list of errors made by Confederates at the back
of the book is a valuable summary.

For those in the group who don't have time for either book (heavy enough
to keep a door open), a few years ago I started Hassler's *Crisis at the
Crossroads,* a thin study of Day 1.  It seemed serviceable enough,
although I didn't get far.
