Greetings,

The September 20th issue of the Gettysburg Times has a very nice article (see captioned title), with pictures, to brings the newspaper's readers up-to-date as to the new VC construction.

Summarizing the article...
 - Construction crews are actively working on the 139,000 square foot facility's foundation which is the third stage of the four-phase project.
 - Construction workers are now framing the new cyclorama building, expected to be 75-feet in diameter, within which the cyclorama painting will be re-hung
 - The cyclorama portion of the project will be manufactured before the rest of the new VC is complete, thereby enabling the crews to move the painting into the building, possibly by this spring.
 - The project's expected completion date is spring 2008, a slight change from the previously announced date of the fall 2007.
 - The Foundation spokesperson said the project is about a year behind schedule but the project is now on a firm track.
 - Funding for the project is stalled at $86 million, some $9 million short of the goal. Foundation spokesperson said that grant proposals are being processed which should narrow the financing gap.
.

(End of summary)

While in Gettysburg last week I drove by the site and it is inspiring to see the vertical steel beams rising in the familiar circular pattern from the concrete foundation. The construction crews can't build it fast enough for my taste.

YOS, Dick Crafton
