Especially, I assume, when someone claims that slavery was generally accepted throughout the original states and the Union at the birth of the Constitution and until decades later when those nasty abolitionists persuaded the Northern states to breach the agreement. One of my favorites is Madison saying, during the debates on Saturday, August 25, 1787, "Mr. MADISON thought it wrong to admit in the Constitution the idea that there could be property in men."
