IIRC, D.H. once wrote his wife that no one liked him in a tone that
suggested, a lot he cared. :-) He got along OK with his brother-in-law
Jackson, but he and his other brother-in-law, Rufus suffered a major falling
out after the woah when Rufus commited the unforgivable sin of becoming a
Republican. Hill and Barringer belonged to the same Presbyterian Church in
Charlotte, N.C. but Harvey refused to pass Rufus the sacrament. Eventually
the church split over the dispute. But I digress. Again, IIRC, D.H. Hill is
the only general that Lee publicly stated he didn't like. I believe he said
something like "that man croaks." Hill was publicly super critical of Lee's
Maryland Campaign. As Tom and I discussed in an earlier thread playing "hot
potato" with Bev Robertson was a bit of D.H. Hill's revenge on Marse Robert.
