Esteemed GDG Member Tom Ryan Contributes:

The first book I read by Burke Davis was Jeb Stuart, The Last Cavalier.
Others of his on my shelf are The Gray Fox, They Called Him Stonewall, and
another one I enjoyed reading called The Long Surrender about the pursuit
and capture of Jefferson Davis. May he RIP.

And let me add one of my favorite's of Mr. Davis' efforts --- "Nine Days
in April" which chronicled the retreat of the ANV from Petersburg and
Richmond towards its final meeting with destiny at Appomattox. Very well
done and one of the books that really triggered my interest in the war as a
young person.
He was a very good historian who wrote with an informative and pleasing
style.
   With regards,
              Chet
