The first book I read by Burke Davis was Jeb Stuart, The Last Cavalier.
Others of his on my shelf are The Gray Fox, They Called Him Stonewall, and
another one I enjoyed reading called The Long Surrender about the pursuit
and capture of Jefferson Davis. May he RIP.

Esteemed GDG Member Contributes:

I received a message this morning that Burke Davis had died. He was one of
an earlier generation of journalist-historians whose wonderfully readable
works introduced many of us to the Civil War. In my case, it was Gray Fox,
his biography of General Lee.
