I know this runs counter to some of those who think he was. I  for one am a
little bit skeptical....

I just got back from 4 days in Gettysburg, where we focused on 2nd day  
action, excluding the action on LRT. We started with the action of Hood's Texas  
Brigade. And one thing that amazed us, to a man, was the lack of  communication 
in the ANV. Hood goes down early around the Slyder Lane & Law  doesn't find 
out that he is in command until later that night. Longstreet, Lee  ... somebody 
dropped the ball. There was some conjecture that maybe Hood refused  to give 
up command. Maybe he thought his wound not that serious.
