GDG- Casinos and the town.

Hi all,
I was in Gettysburg this time last weekend. A very unscientific poll was
taken by yours truly What I did was walk into several of the stores on
Steinwher and just strike up a general conversation that eventually turned
into a discussion on the Casinos.. The interesting thing was that the two
eating establishments that I ate were doing fine. And had a busy summer all
summer long. However the other stores was a mixed results. The eateries were
anti Casinos, but the other stores were for it.... The basic concern is that
property taxes on the rise, casinos would help with the tax burden. Being
from New Jersey, I told them of our experience here. The sense I got and I
shared this with them, be very careful with looking at the Casinos as being
a cure all..... A pie in the sky cure all. Several said they were afraid of
that point of view, but felt there is no recourse.
Gettysburg, the town has serious issues. But at the same time, we who love
the Battlefield must realize that without the town, the battlefield is in
trouble.... We must support the town, by eating there, sleeping in the
hotels in town, and also shopping on town. As and example, every time go
down there that's exactly what I do. I also eat in town and shop in town
(Gallons is getting to be a favorite stop of mine).
Folks we have to strike a balance. How is a very delicate issue.
Well, I thought I would just share that with you all.....

However, based on the Colorado experience, these restrictions will not last
long. Very quickly all gambling will be allowed.
Take care,

Greetings
At this time the commonwealth of Pa. only allows Slot machines and Horse
race betting. As far as I know the proposed (that's all it is) building is
for slots only. It could have an OTB book but I do not think it is in the
plans.
This is no cheap gambling hall, it will be a very large state of the art
building if approved by the state.
Gate Way Gettysburg is already being built across the road, what ever
happens with the state something very big is going to go up at this site.
