Movies always have a problem -- bringing the audience up to date on what is
happening.

Take care,

Not to mention that Jed Hotchkiss recorded in his diary that, while in the
Carlisle area around June 28, Ewell had heard from Lee that he believed the
battle would take place either in Fredericktown (Frederick, MD) or in
Gettysburg. There were other indications that Lee was familiar with
Gettysburg, and saw it as a strategic location.
