Not to mention that Jed Hotchkiss recorded in his diary that, while in the 
Carlisle area around June 28, Ewell had heard from Lee that he believed the 
battle would take place either in Fredericktown (Frederick, MD) or in 
Gettysburg.  There were other indications that Lee was familiar with 
Gettysburg, and saw it as a strategic location.
