At the Gettysburg Travelodge on the small table in the lobby you will find
framed pictures of Lee and Grant next to each other. Not a mention of Meade
to be found in the room. If I had not seen that picture I would not have
known that Grant opposed Lee at Gettysburg! *sigh*

That's for sure .. one of the most frequent questions I get when talking
about Gettysburg, is, "Who is this 'Meade' and where was Grant?" .. I must
admit, however, that about 40 years ago, when I first starting reading about
the CW, I was also surprised that Grant wasn't at Gettysburg! .. so I guess
there is a bit more for us to do in trying to bring our friends and
neighbors up to speed (or at least those who show a spark of interest)! .. I
had one very encouraging moment yesterday, at a family gathering .. a little
great-niece who is just entering middle school told me she is very
interested in American history and wants to be a college professor some day
.. I tried to encourage her as much as possible and will continue to do so..

It is sad. They should know that Grant won the battle of Gettysburg,
not Yorktown!
