<< As I recall it, your version of events has Wright attacking north of the
Copse, taking the crest and capturing two Union batteries. All of this
apparently going unnoticed by anyone in the Federal position, including the
Commanders and men of the 2nd Corps or even Arnold or Cushing who's
batteries were supposedly overrun. >>

And that's the problem. Or at least, one of the problems. Wright striking
and breaking the Union line north of the Copse requires that Cushing and
Arnold be overrun. There's simply no way around it. Yet, the record is
clear that they were not. But this theory would have us believe that Wright
achieved this breakthrough, and captured these two batteries, without
anybody in the AOP seeming to notice, or saying anything about it. Hays,
Hunt, Hazard, Hancock, none of them make any mention of this break in the
line or batteries being overrun. No mention in reports from the gunners.
Nobody claiming to have retaken the guns. Nothing.

Well, if this did happen, where's the fight? Something like this would have
been huge. Confederate troops on the doorstep of Meade's HQ. It would be
up on the monuments, and all over the written record. Men would have
bragged about recapturing those guns at GAR meetings for the rest of their
lives. It wouldn't be something only detected by carefully reading between
the lines over 140 years later.
