stanley meisler writes,in an article about george washington and mt. vernon, 
that in a survey in the 1990s, seniors at 50 leading american colleges and 
universities were asked to name the victorious american general at the 
battle of yorktown.  34%correctly named washington;37% came up with ulysses 
s grant.  its so sad.
