Major General Meade Washington, D.C.,
Army of Potomac Oct. 8. 1863

I am appealed to in behalf of August Blittersdorf, at Mitchells Station,
Va. to be shot to-morrow, as a deserter. I am unwilling for any boy under
eighteen to be shot; and his father affirms that he is yet under sixteen.

Please answer. His Regt. or Co. not given me.

A. LINCOLN
Annotation

[1] ALS, IHi. No reply from Meade or other communications about
Blittersdorf have been found, and there seems to be no record of the name
in the General Orders, Army of the Potomac, but see Lincoln to Meade,
October 15,
