<< For those in the group who don't have time for either book (heavy enough
to keep a door open), a few years ago I started Hassler's *Crisis at the
Crossroads,* a thin study of Day 1.  It seemed serviceable enough,
although I didn't get far.  >>

Time was, "Crisis at the Crossroads" was about all there was to be found as 
far as dedicated studies of the first day.  It is, as you say, a rather thin 
volume, but still a worthwhile introductory overview.
