Michael Ballard has a one-volume work, Vicksburg: The Campaign That Opened the Mississippi, published by the University of North Caroline Press in 2004. In addition, William Shea and Terrence J. Winschel (Winschel is an NPS historian at Vicksburg) have a short book (222 pages, including footnotes), Vicksburg Is the Key: The Struggle for the Mississippi River, published by the University of Nebraska Press in 2003.
