Thanks again for your input. I would have to say that while I realize we
are hypothesizing based upon limited information, it does seem a very realistic
scenario - that the three officers assigned to the cavalry corps would each be
assigned to a division. I do hope that some day I can go to the files in
the National Archive, and find info to refute or support this theory...
I would love to assemble all the names of the various flagmen operating at
Gettysburg, just for fun. I did receive word privately from someone that a
Lucian H. Goodnough was at Little Round Top, so that's a start. I suppose I
could go through the lisiting at the end of Brown's book and see who was
credited as being at GBG, but even Stone is not listed as such, even though I have
written proof from him that he was. (It does, however, state that he was
captured at Manassas Gap, which by inference means during the retreat from GBG).
Anyway, it would be a fun task for when I have nothing else to do (whenever
that would be!)
