Jerome did indeed have high respect for Buford - he wrote a series of
post-war letters to Hancock praising Buford's efforts on the first day, and
imploring Hancock to make sure that Buford received credit for choosing the
battlefield and holding until supports arrived.  It's from Jerome that we
get some of the most interesting and famous quotes by and about Buford.
