Jim,

I totally agree with you - Jerome undoubtedly had Stone, as well as one or 
two others with him.   As a Signal Officer, his job would have been to call out 
the signals, while the flagmen transmitted them.   It would have been 
impossible for Jerome to have acted alone.   It's just too bad that he didn't credit 
any of the flagmen (especially by name) who worked with him, but then I suppose 
that that is not unusual for an officer!    I think Jerome really respected, 
perhaps even idolized Buford, and in turn, liked being the main focus of 
Buford's accolades (with respect to the Signal Corps contribution.)
