Do we know for sure that Lee was aware of Wrights' claim? It seems like Lee pretty much picked up where he left off on the 2nd.

IIRC, didn't Wright say the trouble wasn't in getting there but in staying 
there? Conjecture would be that Marse Robert thought that if a small brigade 
could do that then maybe some 13,000 of Pickett's, Pettigrew's & Trimble's 
boys could stay there & deliver a damaging blow.
