GDG- Lurker Question: "The Loop"

Jim.   I wondered that myself, and then forgot about it. But when I thought about it, I couldn't figure out if it was called that because of the action that took place there, or if it was called that because it just looked like one, and became a point of reference for future visitors. I even think we were there when we did the Tige anderson stomp, but I don't remember anyone referring to its "designation".
  Good Question though. I hope someones got an answer. this is the sort of thing I would probably ask Lew Gage.

cleanup and drove past the area called "The Loop". I've always wondered 
what occurred in that area and how it received it's name.

So, why is the "The Loop" called "The Loop"?
