Dick,
Yes sir. The 1st Minn is a huge part of the story, obviously, and I think
you'll enjoy and appreciate Dave Shultz's and Dave Wieck's narratives about
them - and especially their part in the walking/driving tour at the back of
the book. Dave and Dave begin the book, in fact, with a discussion of
Hancock's famous query about the regiment and it's role that day. You'll
like it.
Best,
J.D.
>>hI david,
I've eagerly awaited publication of 'Between the Farm Lanes since it was
announced and expect to order a copy soon. Does the author address the
question of the tactcal value of the 1st MNVI's charge in stabilizing the
Union line relative to other units in action under Hancock's command
actions? This is a question to which I've been interested in seeing an
objective analysis. The First MNVI personnel naturally believe it was the
most important action of the day. In contemporary accounts it seems to have
gotten more mention than 20th Maine re LRT which appears to have gained its
importance more in retrospective than contemporary accounts.
