I have received a number of questions about the
Daniel Donnelly House (1830) and the Battle of
Falling Waters. Here is an update but please
feel free to contact me via GDG or directly with
any questions or to discuss futhere...
- Restoration on the Daniel Donnelly House and
surrounding property is on-going. It is a
private residence and not open to the public.
- We are in the process of establishing a
non-profit organization devoted to education and
preservation related to the July 14, 1863 battle
of Falling Waters , Maryland. We hope to use
this to raise money to: reconstruct the Donnelly
House barn, open a visitor center, buy markers
and support tours. More to follow on this soon.
- We plan to submit the Falling Waters
battlefield as engandgered for 2007 with the
Civil War Preservation Trust. The farmland along
Falling Waters Road is disappearing for new
"mcmansions". The land from the tree line where
Major Weber's two companies charged to where Col.
Brockenbrough's Viginia troops were engaged (and
many captured) is especially at risk. We shall
keep you updated on that submission and would
value your support.
- I have an upcoming article on the battle to be
published in a military history magazine. And
the work on the related book is on-going. I am
always interested in photographs, diaries,
letters, family histories and recollections plus
material history (such as weapons, uniforms,
saddles, etc.) related to battle of Falling
Waters - both Union and Confederate.
Again, please feel free to contact me directly
with any questions, comments, concerns and/or
support.
