Hello,
By 1864, I think the CSA may have considered the possibility that
kidnapping Lincoln might be the last desperate measure. Among other
desperate measures under consideration I think the Dahlgren incident in
which the claim was that he came south to kidnap President Davis may have
given cause reflection as well. I do not see any evidence that the CSA
acted on these, but do agree many sympathizers and agents may have.
I would not dismiss stories the CSA was involved in the Lincoln
assassination/kidnapping by Booth. However, I would not put much stock in
them unless evidence is forthcoming of that link..
I do appreciate the resources mentioned and will tell Brother Jack who drew
my name for Christmas that I expect them under my tree :-)
Did you read Swanson's Manhunt: the 12 day chase for
Lincoln's Killer? I must admit I felt a little creeped out seeing that 12
day chase from Booth's eyes.
Take Care
Dennis
