GDG- "Loose Bolts Sink....."

Esteemed Colleagues:
I'm not sure if this ever "got in", so I apologies if it did...maybe it just didn't catch anyone's eye. Anyway, the subject was "Team of Rivals"...According to Goodwin, on the second Day of Gettysburg (my "hook"), the Lincoln's were coming back from the Soldier's Home. She then talks about someone(s) loosening the bolts on the carriage-drivers seat in an attempt to harm/kill the President. It almost worked, because the driver "fell off" and the carriage continued down a hill, without a driver. Mary Lincoln had to jump from the carriage...Lincoln, fortunately had decided to ride alone on a horse.
Goodwin avers that there were numerous other attempts on Lincoln's life (17?)...Is that true? I got very interested in the recent literature on the Booth Assassination, including the theory of CSA culpability...In those related books, I do not recall anything about these "attempts" that Goodwin writes about...Any leads?
If the Gettysburg hook doesn't get this "in", maybe someone would email me.
  Thanx
  Hugh Regan
