Hooker grounded Thaddeus Lowe, the chief, and only, aeronaut for the AoP
and USA, after Chancellorsville. A major reason was the size of the
contraption that generated the gas to fill the balloon. Pictures reveal it
was a major headache for the QM to get from one place to another. So
Professor Lowe, went home to Connecticut to invent an ice making machine.
