Annotation

[1] ATS, Hi. The case of varioloid which Lincoln contracted following the
trip to Gettysburg continued well into December and probably accounts for
the series of telegrams sent to Mrs. Lincoln, December 4-7. Mrs. Lincoln
telegraphed on December 4: ``Reached here last evening. Very tired and
severe headache. Hope to hear you are doing well. Expect a telegraph
to-day.'' (Katherine Helm, Mary, Wife of Lincoln, p. 234).
