If you can get your hands on a copy of the "Final Report on the
Battlefield of Gettysburg", which is volume 2 of the "New York Monuments
Commission for the Battlefields of Gettysburg and Chattanooga" printed in
1902, it looks like there is some detailed information on the regiment's
action on July 2nd and 3rd.
The book has been digitized by Google, but a couple of key pages
regarding the 82nd are missing. The link to the book on Google is here

It appears no regimental history has been written about the 82nd NY. I'm
trying to learn more about their actions on day 3 during "The Charge." Can
someone advise me about how far south they were from the copse of trees and
if they are considered to have played a major part in repulsing Pickett's
Charge. (Sorry, after decades of calling it Pickett's Charge I just can't
call it the PPT Assualt <g>.) Also can you recommend a book that might go
into detail about their actions on July 3rd.
I already have the info inscribed on their monument and the OR report of
Captain Darrow.
Thank you.
