Despite the superlative quality of Pfanz's book on the Second Day, after
reading it I still found it difficult to precisely place the events on Little
Round Top and in the Devil's Den and the Wheatfield and the Peach Orchard in their
proper chronology, sequencing which came first and which followed and which
occurred simultaneously. The best priinted reference for such information is
undoubtedly John Imhof's "Gettysburg - Day Two: A Study in Maps" but until
Imhof's work is reprinted (either as a book or in CD form), it is extremely
difficult to find a copy. Perhaps equally useful for building an understanding of
the timing of events on this part of the field is the "Gettysburg Animated" CD
released by "TravelBrains", which includes a very clear graphical
representation of movements on all parts of the battlefield on all three days, making it
quite easy to tie together events in different areas.
