Oh, but JLC was a singer, among his many other accomplishments!   During his 
college years, he sang in and led the choir at First Congregational  Church in 
Brunswick, which was accompanied by a certain Miss Francis Caroline  Adams.  
He overcame his early speech impediment (he stuttered) by learning  to "sing" 
his words (singing uses a different part of the brain than speech,  which is 
why M-m-m-Mel Tillis could sing clearly).  Like his speaking  voice, his 
singing voice was described as "strong" and "beautiful".
 
He also played the bass viol, but that's not part of this discussion...  <g>
