Thanks I am very well familiar with that painting.

I have never seen a photo of Wallar in existence, I Don't know what Don
biased his depiction on, I will have to ask him. My guess is that if a photo
does not exist he probably based off of contemporary descriptions of him,
probably from his military or pension records.

I have my doubts about there being any photo of him;

It would be quite surprising since he was a Medal of Honor winner for doing
such a famous thing as capturing a flag.. If anyone knows about a photo or
comes across anything please let me know.

  The only thing I have come across is a painting by Troiani entitled "Fight
for the Colors" which shows Corporal Waller, 6th Wisconsin, grappling with
Corporal Murphy of the 2nd Mississippi.
