retailing accepted dogma about Stuart's mindset.  Having established this
narrow basis for discussion, it is difficult to see how the authors could be
objective in relating the rest of the story about Stuart's ride.  >>

As so many different historians have done for so many years, on so many 
aspects of the campaign and battle.  Heth blundering into a battle and bring 
on a general engagement.  Buford's repeaters.  Berdan's Sharpshooters making 
Longstreet "five minutes late at LRT".  Stuart into the Union rear while 
Pickett charged.  The list could go on.

 Unfortunate, because not only are myths and misconceptions thus 
perpetuated, but the manner in which many such things were for so long 
presented as givens tended to discourage closer looks at many of these 
interpretations.
