Sad, indeed. I wonder if an "adopt-a-gun" approach might be productive? 
Surely there are arty-related reenactment and special interest groups that 
might be proud to have "their" gun at G'bg. I first heard of this approach 
in re the USS Olympia, where the acceptance of responsibility included 
researching the particular "piece" of the ship and maintaining it. Similar 
thing is done with stretches of highway in some areas.
